Current Art Exhibition
Double Take: Recurrent Dialogues in the Art of Herbert Bayer
June 2026 – April 2027
This exhibition showcases key motifs in Herbert Bayer’s vast output across several decades and mediums, including paintings, drawings, and photographs. Characterized by everything from Surrealist dreamscapes in his early years, to rigorous geometric abstraction in his final works, Bayer’s training as a “total artist” at the Bauhaus reflects his ability to mix fine art, photography, graphic design, and architecture throughout his career. Motifs that reappear throughout his work include the human eye, celestial bodies, topography and geology, typography and signs, color progressions, and gates. In his final decade (1975-1985), Bayer created the Anthology series, which served as a visual autobiography of the motifs he had developed over sixty years.

The Bayer Center is free and open to the public.
