Exhibition Tour

Free hour-long tours of the exhibition, Sculpting the Environment, are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 pm, and Saturdays at 3 pm. Learn more about Bayer’s relationship with the landscape and his particular fondness for Aspen, where he was given free rein to sculpt the Aspen Meadows into a gesamtkunstwerk, or total work of art. Aspen Institute Campus Tour

Join landscape architect Ann Mullins, for a free, guided walking tour of the earthworks and land art of Herbert Bayer on the Bauhaus-inspired, Bayer-designed Aspen Institute Campus.

Exhibition Tour with former Bayer assistant Paul Hobson

Join artist and former Herbert Bayer assistant Paul Hobson on a walkthrough of the new exhibition, “Sculpting the Environment.” Hobson and Penner Manager of Educational Programs Andrew Travers will discuss Hobson’s work on Bayer’s monumental 1970s and ‘80s sculptures.

“A Masterpiece Disappeared” talk and tour with Andrew Travers

Based on his investigation published in January by the Hollywood Reporter, the Bayer Center’s Manager of Educational Programs, Andrew Travers, will share the fascinating and awful story of Herbert Bayer’s “Walk in Space Painting.” The monumental California sculpture, completed in 1981, was the culmination of decades of Bayer work in environmental sculpture and “walk-through” concepts. It disappeared in 2024, apparently destroyed by its current owner. This talk and tour will bring participants up to date on this unsolved mystery and share related artwork on display in the current Bayer Center exhibition “Sculpting the Environment: The Three-Dimensional Art of Herbert Bayer.”
